On Thursday, July 17, the appointed Public Art Advisory Committee Subcommittee for the Manatee Pocket Mooring Field Upland Facility Mosaic Project convened a publicly noticed meeting to review a total of 15 artist applications submitted in response to the project's Call for Artists. Each subcommittee member received a binder containing the unaltered submissions from all applicants, a scoring sheet, and the evaluation criteria with corresponding point values.
Each application was evaluated based on five scoring criteria: Artistic Quality & Concept (30 points), Artist Experience (35 points), Community & Cultural Resonance (20 points), Proposal Execution (10 points), and Statement of Interest (5 points), for a maximum possible score of 600 points per artist. Subcommittee members independently reviewed and scored all submissions before convening to discuss the highest-ranking applicants. Following this discussion, members were given the opportunity to revise their scores before confirming the top three finalists: Jim Dirks (578 points), Shanon Materio (525 points), and Erika Figueroa (508 points).
