BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
Martin County’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan identified dog parks as a high-priority recreational need based on community input and an assessment of the County’s parks and facilities.
A new dog park in Palm City was also identified as a Board priority. In 2025, the District 5 Commissioner’s priorities included the development of a dog park in Palm City. In 2026, that priority was further defined as constructing the new dog park at Lance Corporal Justin Wilson Memorial Park.
The new dog park is currently under construction.
County policy requires the naming of a County facility to be approved by resolution of the Board of County Commissioners. Staff developed potential names for the facility and presented them to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for consideration.
At its July 16, 2026 meeting, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted unanimously to recommend “Palm City Bark Park” as the name of the new dog park.
