AIPP - MOORING FIELD UPLAND FACILITY ART PROJECT, PORT SALERNO CRA
end
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:executive summary
The Manatee Pocket Mooring Field is located at the confluence of the St. Lucie River/Okeechobee Waterway, the Indian River Lagoon/Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, and the St. Lucie Inlet, within Port Salerno, FL. It has been constructed and includes 42 mooring buoys and a floating dinghy dock to facilitate ingress and egress between the mooring field and the adjacent uplands, which needs to include access to mooring field support facilities. An upland facility is required to serve the bathroom, trash and laundry needs of the moorers and to house mooring field operations.
This facility is being designed and will be constructed on county right-of-way. Attached is a concept sketch for what the building will look like and, and the behest of the residents, will offer an excellent opportunity for public art. Staff would recommend using a Call to Artists process for local artists (Martin County), convening a selection committee to award the project. Staff suggests a project cost not-to-exceed $15,000.
We already completed some community engagement for this project on Thursday, March 21 at the Port Salerno Civic Center. The outcomes to be shared at the AIPP meeting on March 25.
