CRA - UNPAVED ROADS

end

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:executive summary

Staff will provide an update on the status of unpaved roads in the CRA areas.

body

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

In FY 2023, the Agency added Unpaved Roads to the Capital Improvements Plans (CIP) of the Hobe Sound, Port Salerno and Rio CRA areas.  The Old Palm City CRA did not have available funding and the Jensen Beach CRA does not have any unpaved roads.  The Golden Gate CRA has a category called Improved Street Infrastructure that can fund unpaved roads. At that time, we had received a lot of community support for this activity especially in Rio and Golden Gate, and more recently in Port Salerno.

Unpaved roads decrease the walkability, street connection, property values, pedestrian and vehicular safety, on street parking opportunities and the aesthetics of a community.  They also exacerbate drainage and flooding issues.  Because repaving and/or rebuilding roadways is extremely expensive, this CIP allows the CRA areas to partially fund this activity when appropriate in conjunction with a capital project or by partnering with another county department.
