BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
The objective of the Derelict Vessel program is to help facilitate the safe passage of vessels in the waterways of the State as well as protect the marine environment. A successful program in Martin County will promote, protect, and improve the quality of life for its citizens. Once law enforcement determines a vessel is derelict and completes its investigation, Martin County arranges for the removal and destruction of the vessel. In fiscal year 2025, there were 38 derelict vessels cases opened of which 17 were brought into compliance, 17 were removed and destroyed and 4 remain in process. The total cost of removal and destruction was $117,990 and FIND is providing a 75% reimbursement grant in the amount of $88,429.50, which is being presented today.
