On June 23, 2015, the Board of County Commissioners approved the renewal for the Docks at Charlie Leighton Park in Palm City. The renewal was good through September 2021.
In August of 2020, County staff contacted FDEP regarding the upcoming expiration of the lease as well as a modification to increase the lease space in line with the new Parks improvement plan for Charlie Leighton Park. The changes to the lease add approximately 7,485 square feet to the existing 5,747 square feet of leased area for a total of 13,232 square feet of lease space.
FDEP inspected, finalized, and worked with the Parks Department to provide the SSLL Renewal and Modification. Staff received the updated documents on November 4, 2024. The term of the new SSLL is from June 20, 2024, through September 7, 2031.
This renewal and modification provide authorized space to operate 3 courtesy docks, a boat ramp and 3 observation piers, with the courtesy docks to be used exclusively for temporary mooring of recreational vessels for staging and the piers to be used for observation and passive recreational activities.
Upon expiration of the terms of this SSLL, the parties may agree to renew for an additional five-year term as required by FDEP.
