BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
SE Gomez Avenue is a County-owned paved major collector that provides vehicular and pedestrian/cyclist access to Peck Lake Park and to Loblolly Bay and Loblolly Pines via SE Hill Terrace. The Board of County Commissioners recently approved The Preserve at Loblolly North Planned Unit Development (PUD) whose residents will also gain access to SE Gomez Avenue via SE Hill Terrace. There are currently STOP signs on SE Hill Terrace at its intersection with SE Gomez Avenue.
Just north of the Preserve at Loblolly North PUD, the unopened right-of-way provides unpaved vehicular and pedestrian/cyclist access to the Gomez Nature Trail and the Seabranch Preserve State Park.
On April 17, 2025, Loblolly’s General Manager, the President of the Loblolly Pines Property Owners Association (POA), and the President of the Loblolly Bay POA sent a letter to County Administrator Donaldson requesting the installation of four-way STOP signs at the intersection.
Martin County has adopted the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The MUTCD identifies criteria that should be considered for multi-way STOP sign installation. Staff does not believe the criteria can be met at this location; therefore, staff requests the Board of County Commissioners authorize the installation of STOP signs on SE Gomez Avenue to convert the intersection to a four-way stop condition.

Move that the Board adopt the Resolution authorizing the installation of STOP signs on SE Gomez Avenue at its intersection with SE Hill Street.
