Sec. 39.2, General Ordinances, Martin County Code (the Code) sets forth the procedures for appointment of members to the CRA. Sec. 39.2.E. of the Code states the term of each member shall be determined at the time of their appointment, and after the initial appointments, terms are for four years.

The Board of County Commissioners appoints the members of the CRA Board.  As stated in Sec. 39.2.D.4. of the Code, one of the qualifications to be a CRA member is that the person must “have served as Chair of the Neighborhood Advisory Committee.”  County records indicate that the following potential appointees meet this criterion:

Rio:  James Lopilato, Adam Guzi, Michael Readling

Old Palm City:  Tom Plymale, Chuck Smith, Rex Sentell

Jensen Beach:  Dave Girlinghouse, Sharon Adams, Frank Wacha, Jerry Compton, Cindy Hall

Golden Gate:  Jan Dalcorso, John Gonzalez, Saadia Tsaftarides

An Information Release soliciting applicants for the At-Large position was emailed via Constant Contact to the Outreach Martin and Local Media which includes local Chambers of Commerce, local businesses, and citizens.  The Information Release was also posted to the County’s web page under News.

All potential appointees have all been contacted by the Office of Community Development to inform them of their eligibility.  Those interested have provided an application for consideration. The Board is asked to make an appointment to represent Rio, Old Palm City, Jensen Beach, Golden Gate, and the At-Large positions on the Community Redevelopment Agency.

As stated in Sec. 39.2.D.4. of the Code, the qualifications to be the at-large CRA member are the same as for all other CRA members, except that the at-large member must “have served as a member of the Neighborhood Advisory Committee but is not required to have served as Chair.”

As a member of the Community Redevelopment Agency, all the appointed individuals will also serve concurrent terms on the Public Art Advisory Committee.

The Administration Staff will advise the applicants of the Commission’s decision and provide the appointed individuals with educational information from the County Attorney’s Office pertaining to the Sunshine Law, public records law, and conflicts of interest law.  Chair letters and framed Certificates of Appreciation will be mailed to any members not reappointed.  The Chair will sign the letters and certificates.

Sec. 39.2.F. of the Code states that the Board of County Commissioners shall designate from among the members of the CRA, a Chair and Vice Chair.  The current CRA members are as follows:

Golden Gate                     Saadia Tsaftarides

Hobe Sound                     Robert Krebs (current CRA Vice Chairman)

Jensen Beach                     Cynthia Hall

Old Palm City                     Rex Sentell (current CRA Chairman)

Port Salerno                     Jamie Rolle Taylor

Rio                     Michael Readling
