BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

The Stuart West Planned Unit Development (PUD) was approved in 1978.  The Phase 1 final site plan and plat were approved in 1980.  In the summer of 2025, several members of the Stuart West community reached out to the County for a determination of whether or not chickens were permitted in Stuart West.  The County Attorney’s office determined that based on the Martin County Land Development Regulations and the Stuart West PUD Agreement, chickens were not permitted in Stuart West.

There have been two preapplications to amend the PUD Agreement in recent history.  On October 20, 2023, there was a preapplication meeting to amend the PUD Agreement to change the use on one parcel to allow for a Church.  There was a second preapplication meeting on October 8, 2025, to discuss an amendment to the PUD Agreement related to the animals permitted in the PUD.  There are currently no pending applications for an amendment to the Stuart West PUD Agreement.
