BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

Ali Soule, Vice President of Community Relations for Brightline, will be presenting an update to the progress of Brightline’s passenger rail service from Orlando to West Palm Beach.

Brightline is also asking the Board of County Commissioners (Board) to adopt a resolution supporting applications to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to fund the replacement and expansion of the railroad bridge over the St. Lucie River.  The FDOT and USDOT grant opportunities require an application by a public agency; Brightline and the Florida East Coast Railway are not public agencies.  The City of Stuart, by resolution, has agreed to partner with and/or apply for eligible FDOT and USDOT grants, and if awarded, to oversee grant implementation
The draft resolution being considered by the Board encourages and supports the City of Stuart’s partnership and the award of eligible FDOT and USDOT grants.
