BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
The object of the Derelict Vessel program is to help facilitate the safe passage of vessels in the waterways of the state as well as protect the marine environment. A successful program in Martin County will promote, protect, and improve the quality of life for its citizens. Once law enforcement determines a vessel is derelict and completes its investigation, Martin County arranges for the removal and destruction of the vessel. In fiscal year 2026, 30 derelict vessel cases were opened of which 12 were brought into compliance, 16 were removed and destroyed, and 2 are currently being processed. The total cost in fiscal year 2026 for removal and destruction was $74,660, and FIND is providing a 75% reimbursement grant in the amount of $55,995, which is being presented today.
