BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

The Children’s Museum is proposing an addition to the existing museum to include a Science Museum and Planetarium to be located on a portion of the property adjacent to the Children’s Museum at IRSP.

In 2005, pursuant to Section 125.38, Florida Statutes, the Children’s Museum obtained a 25-year Lease, on approximately 0.64 acres, to renovate the facility within IRSP.  In 2012, the Lease Agreement was amended to add additional land to the lease area for a total of 0.81 acres.  In 2016 a Second Amendment to the Lease Agreement was approved providing the Children’s Museum an additional 30 years to the Lease with the term now on August 9, 2060.

The proposed addition for the new Science Museum and Planetarium is shown on the attached aerial map.  A copy of the IRSP Master Site Plan has been included.  A rendering of the proposed new addition will be presented during this presentation.

Should the Board agree the proposal is sufficient use of the County owned property, the Children’s Museum will start working on raising funds and develop more concrete plans for the addition and amendment to the Lease Agreement.
