EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:executive summary

Art in Public Places is working with the development team of The Preserve at Rio Marine Village (a residential development) and Rio Marine Village (a mixed-use development), located north and south of Dixie Highway, respectively.  The roundabout at Martin Avenue will be removed and replaced with two roundabouts, one that designates the entrance to the north development and one indicating the entrance to the south.  A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) has been drafted for art to be placed in each of the two new roundabouts.  Staff received the Committee’s comments at the last meeting and the modified RFQ is attached.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

The Public Art Advisory Committee, at the January 22, 2024 meeting directed staff to utilize a Call to Artists selection process that begins with a Request for Qualifications.  A Selection Committee reviews the RFQ submissions of the artist or artist group applicants and chooses finalists based on evaluation criteria such as images/videos of completed relevant artwork, CV/Resumes, professional references, letter of interest that briefly describes their intended concept, artistic style, background, past projects and how they relate to this project.  Finalists would then present their projects, including concept, design, detailed budget, installation, projected maintenance, etc.

Public art has been anticipated in the Rio CRA for many years.  The Neighborhood Advisory Committee has dedicated dollars to Creative Placemaking, and the community is supportive.
