BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
In 2010 Martin County acquired the property located at 2492 SE St. Lucie Boulevard with AIP Grant funding through the FAA noise mitigation program. The home on the property was demolished as the cost to remediate in accordance with the noise mitigation program exceeded the value of the home. The parcel has remained vacant since 2011. This .57 acre parcel has been appraised with a fair market value of $62,400 and is no longer needed for noise compatibility purposes, which would be beneficial to the County, if removed from the Airport boundary and associated restrictions.
The County wishes to use this and an adjacent County owned parcel for green space and to address future storm water issues in the Port Sewall neighborhood by reducing the frequency of flooding and water pollution with increased infiltration through the use of pervious space.
In 1943 Martin County acquired the property located at 2675 SE Dixie Highway, which is approximately 2.34 acres and has a fair market value of $375,000. The former Animal Shelter on the property was demolished and the property has remained vacant for years.
The airport wishes to use this parcel for primarily non-aeronautical with some auxiliary aeronautical uses. Due to the location of the property, it would fill a gap located in the current Airport property boundary and increase the overall security of the Airport. The location would also allow for future development at the Airport increasing economic impact the Airport has on the community.
The Airport Noise Advisory Committee (ANAC) has recommended and the FAA has agreed to release the property on SE St. Lucie Boulevard from and to encumber the property on SE Dixie Highway with the Airport boundary and associated restrictions.
Since both parcels are deeded and titled in the name of Martin County, no formal documentation is needed to formalize this action. This change will be reflected in the amended Airport boundary map and in the departmental budgets showing the change in maintenance responsibilities.
