BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

Mr. van der Heyden’s journey with the County encompassed many critical positions, including heavy equipment operator, road maintenance supervisor, stormwater inspector and engineering inspector.  He played a critical role in development of two of our stormwater quality operation improvements including implementation of both the vactor truck program to remove sediments from our stormwater system and our sweeper truck program to remove litter and debris from our roadways before it can enter the stormwater system.

Norm’s current role as an engineering inspector puts him in touch with residents daily, and we regularly receive positive feedback regarding his customer service and recommendations for drainage improvements.  He has received media attention multiple times for his role in flood control and for his heroic efforts in saving a Palm City resident who was swept into Bessey Creek during a severe flood event.  Please join us in recognizing Norm for his career achievements and wish him well in his retirement.
