BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

This Interlocal Agreement enhances the safety and effectiveness of SWAT operations by integrating advanced medical support into high-risk environments. The Interlocal Agreement (ILA) also outlines responsibilities, liability considerations, and operational coordination between both agencies to ensure a seamless and effective deployment of the program.

High-risk tactical operations require immediate access to advanced medical care to protect both law enforcement personnel and community members. Martin County Fire Rescue and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office share the strategic goal of enhancing public safety through interagency collaboration.

Establishing a dedicated SWAT Medic program ensures that advanced life support capabilities are embedded within tactical operations. This initiative strengthens the County’s overall emergency preparedness, improves survivability in critical incidents, and supports both agencies’ missions to safeguard the health and safety of residents and first responders.
