The Historical Society of Martin County (the “Society”) currently operates the House of Refuge pursuant to a three (3) year Management Agreement (“Agreement”) with the County that expires on September 30, 2025. The current Agreement provides that the term of the Agreement may be renewed for subsequent 3-year periods upon written agreement of the parties. The Society has requested a 3-year extension to allow for the continued operation of the House of Refuge for the benefit of the Martin County and visiting public.
The proposed Agreement has been updated for a new 3-year term and has been revised to account for the Refuge Runner shuttle service, an additional service to the public which provides transportation between the Elliot Museum and the House of Refuge Museum to allow museum guests to enjoy their visit without undergoing the sometimes-frustrating search for parking. This enhancement has greatly reduced the pressure on the fifteen parking spaces available at the House of Refuge and has dramatically improved attendance and the overall guest experience. The annual fee payable to the Society has been increased from $92,000/year to $96,000/year to account for increased staffing costs, additional services and cumulative inflation. The Agreement is terminable by either party upon sixty (60) days advance written notice.
