EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

executive summary

Planning for Historic Preservation Month 2026, which will take place in May, is beginning. Each year, the Martin County Historic Preservation Board hosts two signature events: the Historic Preservation Month Kick-Off event and the Preservationist of the Year reception.

Traditionally, the Kick-Off event has been held at the Stuart Heritage Museum, and the Preservationist of the Year reception has taken place at the Elliott Museum.

At a previous meeting, the Board discussed the possibility of hosting the 2026 Kick-Off Event at the The Mansion at Tuckahoe instead. The concept would be to organize the event as a Historic Preservation Open House, inviting local historical and cultural organizations to host informational tables where they can share their missions, programs, and upcoming activities with the community during Historic Preservation Month.

The Board is asked to provide direction and vote on the locations for both the 2026 Historic Preservation Month Kick-Off event and the 2026 Preservationist of the Year reception so staff can begin planning and coordination.
