AIPP - TEMPORARY SCULPTURE EXHIBITION IN GAZEBO PARK
end
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:executive summary
With the planned relocation of the Gary Gresko sculptures from Gazebo Park in the City of Stuart, staff has identified an opportunity to activate the park through a rotating temporary sculpture exhibition. Staff is exploring the development of a curated exhibition modeled after Orange County's Sculpture on the Lawn program in Orlando, which has successfully showcased outdoor sculptures by regional and national artists for more than a decade.
The proposed concept would feature a rotating collection of temporary sculptures displayed on the park's existing sculpture pads, providing the public with new artworks on a recurring basis while creating ongoing opportunities for artists and enhancing the cultural experience of downtown Stuart. A temporary exhibition would also allow the Art in Public Places Program to regularly refresh the park's public art offerings without requiring permanent installations.
Staff is currently evaluating program logistics, including a curatorial partnership with the City of Stuart, exhibition schedule, artist selection process, installation requirements, insurance, and maintenance responsibilities. The purpose of this agenda item is to introduce the concept to the Public Art Advisory Committee, receive initial feedback, and discuss next steps for developing the program.
