BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
The Martin County Public Works Department, in coordination with environmental consulting firm WGI, analyzed the tree canopy coverage within the rights-of-way in the primary and secondary Urban Services Boundaries. This presentation will provide the Board with the methodology used to collect the data, the results of the tree canopy analysis, opportunities for the county related to the tree canopy, and some issues identified during this effort. For example, the GIS and Lidar data determined the coverage of our urban canopy is below most urban areas within the state; however, the county has higher than average available land to increase the canopy coverage through strategic planting efforts. Staff requests Board direction for a percent-canopy-coverage goal and a timeframe to achieve this goal.
The presentation will be provided via supplemental memo.
