Board approval is requested for an Interlocal Agreement between the Martin County Board of County Commissioners (County) and the Town of Jupiter Island (Town). This Agreement will allow the Martin County Public Works Department to participate in a joint construction project performing potable water construction within the Gomez/Pettway community.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

1. Agreement drafted by: Martin County Public Works with comments from the County Attorney's Office and the Town of Jupiter Island. The Agreement has already been approved and executed by the Town;

2. Parties to the Agreement: Martin County Board of County Commissioners and Town of Jupiter Island;

3. Purpose of the Agreement: To allow a construction project to provide potable water improvements to the Gomez/Pettway community;

4. New/Renewal/Modified: New Agreement;

5. Duration: The Agreement will terminate when the water system components constructed under the Agreement are completed and transferred to the Town in accordance with the terms of the Agreement;

6. Benefits to Martin County: Provides potable water service to a community that has documented water quality concerns related to their private wells;

7. Cost to Martin County: The Capital Cost for Martin County Components is $300,000 and a $940,000 appropriation was provided by the state through the Department of Environmental Protection for the potable water project.
