Martin County Ocean Rescue recently presented the plans for a new rescue facility in Hobe Sound to the Town of Jupiter Island, seeking their partnership and support for the project. The involvement of Jupiter Island is key, and their support will help ensure the project's success. The proposed facility will significantly improve upon the outdated and undersized current infrastructure. This project will allow Martin County Ocean Rescue to operate more efficiently and effectively, ultimately improving the safety and well-being of both the staff and the public. This is an informational item to discuss the project history and direction.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

The facility will address urgent needs such as enhanced security measures, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, improved living and working conditions for ocean rescue staff. The existing facility lacks the space and modern safety features required to meet the increasing demands of ocean rescue operations.

The current facility contains an 80-square-foot area for Ocean Rescue that raises several health and safety concerns. Located between the public restrooms, it serves as the bathroom, kitchen, medical storage, and patient triage area, all cramped into a single room. This layout poses significant sanitary issues, particularly since the septic system has backed up in the past. Additionally, there is no designated shelter for staff during inclement weather, forcing them to take refuge in their personal vehicles.
