The County Administrator received correspondence from the Martin County School Board Superintendent of Schools that contained a resolution requesting action by the Martin County Board of County Commissioners (Board) to direct the Supervisor of Elections to place on the November 5, 2024 General Election Ballot a referendum on the question of renewing the current ad valorem millage by up to one-half mill per year for four years.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
Section 1011.71(9), Fla. Stat. District School Tax governs the ability of a school board to levy additional millage for school operational purposes subject to approval by a majority of the voters of Martin County. Section 1011.73(2), Fla. Stat. governs the Board's role in this matter: The district school board, pursuant to resolution adopted at a regular meeting, shall direct the county commissioners to call an election at which the electors within the school district may approve an ad valorem tax millage as authorized under s. 1011.71(9).

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
RECOMMENDATION
Move that the Board authorize placement of the Martin County School Board ballot language contained in School Board Resolution 24-02 concerning the increase in ad valorem millage by one-half mill for four years on the November 5, 2024 General Election Ballot which will be provided to the Supervisor of Elections for formal action.
