BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
In November of 2024, the County undertook the Centennial Book project. The book, now complete, is truly a collaborative effort involving many community members including County Administration, Richworks graphics, Jackie Williams with contributions from the Alfred Miller family, Julie Preast, Sandra Thurlow, Jacqui Thurlow Lippisch, Martin Digital History and others. The book captures the County's legacy through archival photography, historical narratives, and reflections on the people, places, and events that have shaped Martin County over the past century. It serves both as a historical record and an educational resource for residents, visitors, and future generations.
ISSUES:
Staff requests Board authorization to distribute copies of the Centennial Book to the Martin County Historic Preservation Board and all branches of the Martin County Library System. Staff further requests that distribution of the Centennial Book to the public occur primarily through the Historical Society of Martin County and the Arts Council of Martin County, in recognition of their contributions to its creation. Staff proposes that a total of 200 copies be donated at no cost to these two organizations, to be made available to the public under a suggested donation model, rather than for sale, due to limitations related to contributed written content and photographic materials.
