The Hutchinson Island Shore Protection Project (HISPP) was authorized under Section 101(a)(8) of the Water Resources Development Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-640), based on the Chief of Engineers' report dated November 20, 1989. The authorized project includes beach nourishment along 4.0 miles of shoreline from the St. Lucie County line south to near Stuart Public Park (R-1 to R-25).

Hurricane Nicole, an extraordinary storm event, caused severe erosion along the project shoreline, with an estimated loss of 248,000 cubic yards of sand. Post-storm assessments indicate that approximately 309,000 cubic yards of material will b...
