DISCUSSION OF AMENDING SECTION 9.62.B TO REQUIRE REPORTING VETERINARIANS TO INCLUDE THE MICROCHIP STATUS AND NUMBER OF AN ANIMAL ON ITS VACCINATION CERTIFICATE.

end

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

executive summary

Currently, veterinarians are required to issue vaccination certificates and to include whether or not the animal is sterilized.  However, veterinarians are not required to report the status and number of an animal who is microchipped when issuing such vaccinations certificates. These certificates are forwarded to the Tax Collector’s Office, who issues invoices for animal licenses. Whether or not an animal is microchipped effects the amount charged for an animal licensure. Staff is asking the ACCOB to discuss and recommend whether or not the Ordinance should be amended to require veterinarians to report the microchip status and number with vaccination certificates.
