Airport Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have requested that the Board of County Commissioners approve the modification of the Airport boundary, which includes encumbering property located at 2675 SE Dixie Highway, former Martin County Animal Shelter property, with Airport restrictions and releasing property located at 2492 SE St. Lucie Boulevard acquired through the AIP Grant program in 2010, from the Airport restrictions as it is no longer needed for noise compatibility purposes.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

In 2010 Martin County acquired the property located at 2492 SE St. Lucie Boulevard with AIP Grant funding through the FAA noise mitigation program. The home on the property was demolished as the cost to remediate in accordance with the noise mitigation program exceeded the value of the home. The parcel has remained vacant since 2011. This .57 acre parcel has been appraised with a fair market value of $62,400 and is no longer needed for noise compatibility purposes, which would be beneficial to the County, if removed from the Airport boundary and associated restrictions.

The County wishes to use this and an adjacent County owned parcel for green space and to address future storm water issues in the Port Sewall neighborhood by reducing the frequency of flooding and water pollution with increased infiltration through the use of pervious space.
