BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

 

Due to members resigning and terms that will expire in September (see list below), the Administration Staff prepared an Information Release soliciting applicants specifically for all six Neighborhood Advisory Committees.  It was emailed via Constant Contact to the Outreach Martin and Local Media email lists which includes local Chambers of Commerce, local businesses, local media, and citizens (over 1,400 recipients).  The Information Release was also posted to the County’s web page under News.

The incumbents were provided an Application for Appointment to complete and return if so desired.

 

The Administration Staff will advise all of the applicants of the Commission’s decision which will include Sunshine Law information to the appointed individuals.  Chair letters and Certificates of Appreciation will be mailed to any members not reappointed.  The Chair will sign the letters and certificates.

 

Administration Staff confirmed through the Supervisor of Elections Office that all of the applicants listed below are Martin County registered voters as required.

 

Resolution 13-9.48 sets out the number of members for each Neighborhood Advisory Committee.  As time has passed, interest has changed, and staff recommends amending the number of members for each Neighborhood Advisory Committee as follows:

Golden Gate Neighborhood Advisory Committee - currently: 5                     recommended: 7

Hobe Sound Neighborhood Advisory Committee - currently: 5                     recommended: 7

Jensen Beach Neighborhood Advisory Committee - currently: 6                        recommended: 5

Old Palm City Neighborhood Advisory Committee - currently: 9                        recommended: no change

Port Salerno Neighborhood Advisory Committee - currently: 6                     recommended: 7

Rio Neighborhood Advisory Committee - currently: 9                     recommended: 7

 

To qualify, Neighborhood Advisory Committee applicants must be an individual who is either:

i.                     A resident of the respective Community Redevelopment Area, as evidenced by being a registered voter in the respective Community Redevelopment Area for at least one year, or

ii.                     A resident of Martin County, as evidenced by being a registered voter in Martin County for at least one year, who is also a business owner of a business located within the respective Community Redevelopment Area; or

iii.                     A resident of Martin County, as evidenced by being a registered voter in Martin County for at least two years, who is also a senior manager of a business located within the respective Community Redevelopment Area; or

iv.                     A resident of Martin County, as evidenced by being a registered voter in Martin County for at least one year, who also owns real property within a mile of the respective Community Redevelopment Area. No more than two members of any respective Neighborhood Advisory Committee will be appointed from category iv. above.

 

The Board is asked to appoint the following for terms to begin September 12, 2018 and end September 11, 2022.

RECOMMENDATION

Move that the Board adopt the Resolution amending membership numbers for the Neighborhood Advisory Committees and appoint/reappoint the following for terms to begin September 12, 2018 and end September 11, 2022.
