Two public hearings are required to ensure citizen input on any proposed Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application. This is the first public hearing on this subject to allow the citizens to express their views concerning the community's economic and community development needs. The Health and Human Services Division proposes to apply for an Economic Development CDBG grant in FY 2017-2018.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

Martin County is considering applying to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FDEO) for one or more Small Cities CDBG for up to $1,500,000.
The categories of activities for which these grant funds may be used are in the areas of housing, neighborhood revitalization, commercial revitalization, or economic development and include such improvement activities as acquisition of real property for public purpose, loans to private-for-profit business, construction of public infrastructure such as water, sewer or roads, rehabilitation. These funds must be used for one of the following purposes:
1. To benefit low and moderate income persons; or
2. To aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight; or
3. To meet other community development needs of recent origin having a particular urgency because existing conditions pose a serious and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community and where other financial resources are not available to meet such needs.
