On August 1, 2018 MARTY's Commuter Bus service added a stop at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in West Palm Beach to allow for the Veterans Services in Martin County to focus transportation efforts within Martin County borders. In order to continue to offer free transportation service to and from the VA Hospital, staff is requesting a change to the MARTY fare structure to include free boarding for all Veterans with proof of identification.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

On August 1, 2018 MARTY's commuter bus service, route 20X, added a stop at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Palm Beach. The additional stop on this route provides Martin County Veterans more frequent drop off and pick up times throughout the day, therefore, increasing the span of hours to book appointments and decreasing return trip wait times.
On January 1, 2019 the Veterans Services in Martin County changed its transit route schedule to provide routine drop off and pick up services at the MARTY bus stop located at the Morgade Library.
Veterans that can use public transit services will be transitioned from the current transit service offered through the Veterans Services of Martin County to the MARTY.
Currently, the MARTY fare structure is;
Fixed Route - Full Fare $1.50
Fixed Route - *Half Fare $0.75
Commuter Bus - Full Fare $2.00

*Half Fare is offered to seniors (age 65 and older), persons with disabilities, defined as "who by reason of illness, injury, age, congenital malfunction, or other incapacity or temporary or permanent disability (including any individual who is a wheelchair user or semi-ambulatory capabilities), cannot use effectively wit...
