The Fire Rescue Department requests the Board of County Commissioners to execute an Interlocal Agreement with the School Board of Martin County for the cooperation and coordination in carrying out the responsibilities to provide shelter before, during, and after a potential emergency.  This agreement has been executed by the School Board of Martin County.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

 

1.                     Agreement/Contract drafted by: Martin County and the School Board of Martin County

2.                     Parties to the Agreement/Contract: Martin County and the School Board of Martin County

3.                     Purpose of the Agreement/Contract: Formalize the coordination of the emergency sheltering program

4.                     New/Renewal/Modification: Modification

5.                     Duration: Five years from the effective date; however, it cannot be terminated between June 1 and November 30 (hurricane season)

6.                     Cost to Martin County (annual and potential): Annual - none; Potential - school district cost of shelter operations during an emergency

 

ISSUES:

 

This Agreement outlines the implementation of a pet-friendly shelter facility; location to be determined.  This Agreement also outlines the reimbursement requirements for Martin County to the School Board, which would support the County’s needs for FEMA reimbursement, if a presidential disaster declaration is received.

Move that the Board approve the Interlocal Agreement between Martin County and the School Board of Martin County.
