Recently a vacancy on the National Association of Counties Board (NACo Board) of Directors has become available. This vacant NACo Board position is a designated Florida Association of Counties position. Commissioner Doug Smith would like to be considered for the position and is requesting the Board of County Commissioners approve him doing so via a resolution.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
Martin County is a member of several organizations at the state and national level. Participation in these organizations is crucial to keep abreast of issues and provides unlimited resources. There are two that the County Commissioners are very active in: Florida Association of Counties (FAC) and National Association of Counties (NACo).
Both organizations referenced have a Board of Directors. Recently the FAC designated Board position for NACo became vacant. Commissioner Doug Smith, who is a past President for FAC, would like to apply to be considered for the NACO Board vacancy. FAC bylaws require applicants for the NACo Board be approved by that Commissioner’s Board of County Commissioners (Board). Commissioner Smith is requesting such approval prior to submitting his application for consideration.

Move that the Board approve a resolution to demonstrate their support for Commissioner Doug Smith to be considered for the vacant FAC designated NACo Board position.
