BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
A Metropolitan Planning Organization (or MPO) is a policy-making body made up of local government and planning agencies focused on improving the transportation system in an urbanized area with a population of 50,000 or more. The Martin MPO staff, housed within the Martin County Public Works Department, works with various Federal, state, and local agencies to enhance the overall transportation network in Martin County.
Every five years, the Martin MPO must update the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) to ensure a continuous, cooperative and comprehensive transportation planning process. The LRTP is a Federal and State requirement with a 25-year planning horizon. As part of the LRTP process, the MPO coordinates to provide numerous opportunities for public input for potential future transportation improvements.
As a transportation planning agency, the Martin MPO also develops other planning studies and products. The Complete Streets: Access to Transit Study is currently being conducted with the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council. Staff from the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council will present the Complete Streets: Access to Transit Study update and display ten complete streets illustrative concepts.
