BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

On October 22, 2019 the BCC approved a one (1) day road closure permit for the 2020 Port Salerno Seafood Festival. Special events that require closure of County and State Roadways must be approved by the BCC to ensure that the public is properly notified, and that traffic is properly detoured around the closure(s). Staff will present and agenda item with a list of all road closure applications for the next year (2021) this May. This provides sponsors ample time for planning their events in the fall and winter of the coming year.

The Port Salerno Seafood Festival took place on January 25, 2020. It is estimated that over 27,000 patrons and 220 volunteers attended the festival this year. Seafood festival representatives advised County staff that the Port Salerno Dock Authority will receive $15,000 which will be dedicated to maintaining the docks. The Seafood Festival reported that they hired sixteen (16) deputies and nine (9) security guards over a two (2) day period to provide a safe environment for the neighborhood.
