Martin County's Public Transit system is partially funded by a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant that must be applied for each year. The grant application requires Martin County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to conduct a public hearing that encourages public participation and opportunities for the community to comment on the Program of Projects for the filing of the FY 2019 Section 5307 Grant Application. Notice of this Public Hearing was published in The Stuart News on April 19, 2020.

BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:
Permission to apply for Federal Transit Administration (FTA) FY19 Title 49 U.S.C. Section 5307 Urbanized Area Formula Program Funding. FTA appropriates Section 5307 funds annually on the basis of legislative formulas to assist urbanized areas with Transit in the following areas:
* Operating: This funds fixed route services in the urbanized area, as well as, American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) Complementary Services.
* Capital: The Capital portion helps to fund the administrative costs, vehicle purchases and software/hardware equipment procurements.
* Safety & Security Enhancements: This portion of the grant is used to purchase security equipment and /or lighting at transit locations.
This grant is necessary to continue the Public Transit Services in Martin County. Martin County must apply for this grant every year.
