BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

The LRWRP project was planned as a part of CERP.  It was authorized by congress in 2000 and it includes a suite of projects that will restore habitat, freshwater flows and natural systems in the Loxahatchee River, a National Wild and Scenic River.

Martin County has been a vested and strategic partner in planning and executing these projects to ensure that water quality impacts are corrected for the health of the Loxahatchee River.

Recently the Army Corps of Engineers Chief Engineer approved the selected restoration plan and it is now eligible for approval as a federal project in the 2020 Water Resourced Development Act (WRDA2020).  The BOCC has expressed its support for the LRWRP and has been integral in ensuring it navigated arduous planning hurdles throughout the federal project planning process. If included in WRDA2020 it will be eligible for appropriation and construction planning.  The next steps will be a Project Implementation Report and Project Partnership Agreements.
