BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

In December of 2018 the Board approved the Large Sewer Program (vacuum system serving more than 300 connections) and in January of 2019 the Board approved the allocation of $4.0M toward the program from within the Franchise Fee, Utility Revenues and County General Revenue to keep the total assessment cost below $12,000 per ERC. In March of 2019 the Board approved the Grinder Sewer Program (serving less than 300 connections).

The goal is to provide sewer service to 10,000 homes in ten years to eliminate the use of on-site septic systems thereby reducing harmful nutrients reaching local waterways. The department has developed a 10-year planning document that identifies all the communities that will require vacuum and grinder sewer systems to meet this goal. Further, staff has developed a detailed 5-year work plan that is the basis for the annual CIP budget requests.

Staff has prepared a PowerPoint presentation which provides more information on the projects, costs, grant status, financial incentives and connection rates.
