BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

In January 2020, the County began the transformation into Sailfish Sands Golf Course, a new state-of-the-art facility designed to be exciting, fun and sustainable. Since the groundbreaking, the following components have been completed:

Completion of 3 new, on-course restrooms

Design and construction of a new 9-hole reversible course and driving range

Planting and growing-in of turf for the new 9-hole reversible course and driving range

Removal of invasive plants from the new 9-hole reversible course and driving range

Improvement of cart paths on the new 9-hole reversible course

Drainage improvements on the new 9-hole reversible course and driving range

Landscape improvements on the new 9-hole reversible course and driving range

Bunker improvements on the new 9-hole reversible course

New golf cart parking at the driving range

                     New golf carts with GPS

The next steps are:

LED targets on the driving range

New signage and furnishings for the new 9-hole reversible course and driving range

New 9-hole reversible course and driving range open to the public

Ball tracing technology at the driving range - provides shot data perfect for swing improvement and golf instruction

Parking lot improvements (size, surface, drainage, striping, landscaping, lighting)

Pro Shop renovation and landscape improvements

Cart path improvements on the 18-hole course

Landscaping improvements on the 18-hole course

Construction of a new clubhouse with restaurant, bar and hitting bays

                     Improvements to the 18-hole course

Installation of new signage and furnishings for the 18-hole course

Phased removal of invasive plants from the 18-hole course

                     PUBLIC ART!!

Parks and Recreation has decided that the location of the public art be the signage wall and the space in front of that.  They would like something created that ties in with the name and the logo and it can utilize the wall, can contain a water feature and will have lighting and landscape components. They would like something that will be lit at night, have a big visual impact and be composed of sustainable materials.  The architecture of the building is Florida vernacular.  Renderings are attached.

Staff is planning to release a Call to Artists for this project in the next couple of months.  Staff also recommends adding AIPP capital project budget funds of $10,000.
