BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL:

Mr. Richard Zurich, the current Chair of the Rio Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC), the Community Redevelopment Agency and the Public Art Site Selection Committee will be stepping down from those positions as he is moving out of the CRA area of Rio and will, therefore, no longer be eligible to serve on the above referenced bodies. Per previous Board direction, Administration Staff sent Mr. Zurich a framed Certificate of Appreciation and letter thanking him for serving which were signed by Chairman Ciampi.

Sec. 39.2, General Ordinances, Martin County Code (the Code) sets forth the procedures for appointment of members to the CRA. Sec. 39.2.E. of the Code states the term of each member shall be determined at the time of their appointment, after the initial appointments, terms are for four years.

The Board of County Commissioners appointed the current members of the CRA in December 2016. As stated in Sec. 39.2D. of the Code, one of the qualifications to be a CRA member is that the person must "have served as Chair of the Neighborhood Advisory Committee." Our records show several potential appointees that meet this criterion: James LoPilato, Julie Preast and Douglas Ashley.
