Martin County Public Works Department (PWD) has been tracking and responding to flooding reports for many years. Maps created from this data have revealed clustering of these conditions, often adjacent to or near the County's extensive tidally influenced waterway system. These tidal waters have exhibited an impact from increasing sea levels over time. Over the past few years, PWD has begun to anticipate flooding events by tracking predicted tides, and specifically focusing on the highest annual tides - often referred to as King Tides. These planned observations have indicated that the flooding events have become more numerous, with a longer duration, and often more severe. Over the past 2 years dedicated survey crews have further documented this phenomenon at sentinel sites.
